LEO CARRILLO BEACH

Beach Access Road, Malibu

• The Karate Kid: Several scenes were shot at Leo Carrillo Beach in Malibu, including the iconic crane kick that Daniel practices while standing on a pole.
• Less than Zero: Robert Downey Jr and Andrew McCarthy meet up for an uncomfortable conversation on a cliff overlooking the bay.

SUNSET STRIP

*30 minutes from LAX without traffic

• Less Than Zero filmed scenes on Sunset Boulevard.
• It’s featured in the opening sequence in Motley Crue’s “Kickstart my Heart” video.
• Is where Lars Ulrich of Metallica yelled insults at Nikki and Tommy Lee one night, prompting Nikki Sixx to chase Lars down the strip.

WHISKY A GO-GO

8901 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood

• 80s rock bands ruled the Whisky, where Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue, Van Halen, Poison and more performed every night.
• Motley Crue filmed the video for “Kickstart My Heart” there and all lived together in an apartment right up the street.

THE RAINBOW BAR & GRILL

9015 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood

• At the iconic rocker hangout, on any given night you might find David Lee Roth, Ozzy Osbourne, Lita Ford or members of Motley Crue, Poison, Metallica, Ratt, Cinderella and more.
• Guns N’ Roses filmed their “November Rain and “Estranged” videos there (and Slash and Steven Adler first hung out there as teens using fake IDs).

THE ROXY THEATRE

9009 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood

Located right next door to the Rainbow:

• Ratt’s “Back for More” video was filmed there, featuring cameos by Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee as police officers.
• Billy Vera & The Beaters recorded “At This Moment” live at The Roxy, known best as “Alex and Ellen’s song” in Family Ties.
• Guns N’ Roses recorded “Live at the Roxy” in the club.
• Jane’s Addiction recorded parts of their debut album onstage to capture the energy of a live concert.
• Pee Wee Herman made his debut at The Roxy.

THE SEVENTH VEIL

• The gentlemen’s club was immortalized in Motley Crue’s “Girls Girls Girls”

HOLLYWOOD

GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY

2800 E Observatory Road, Los Angeles

• The Terminator arrives in Los Angeles by landing at the Griffith Observatory.
• In the pilot for MacGyver, the observatory is used as his home.

HOLLYWOOD SIGN

• The sign is on display in Valley Girl’s opening sequence that takes us through LA and into the Valley.
• Xanadu: When Olivia Newton-John and her muses come alive off the mural they run through Los Angeles and in front of the Hollywood sign trailed by rainbows.
• The iconic sign bursts into flames in Jane Wiedlin’s (the Go-Gos) “World on Fire” video

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS TOUR

100 Universal City Plaza, Universal Studios

• The Back to the Future clock tower, where Doc risks everything to get Marty back to the future, is a popular stop on the tram ride.
• And you can see where Angela Lansbury rode her bike on the set used as the town in the opening sequence for Murder She Wrote.
